  1. What is AMR and how does it work?

AMR is an acronym for automated meter reading, a state-of-the-art technology that enables Laclede Gas to read your gas meter automatically. The Cellnet AMR system employs a wireless fixed network with read devices that will be attached to existing Laclede Gas customer meters. Reads from each meter are transmitted to local network receivers and transferred to Laclede’s customer billing system, resulting in the production of a timely, accurate bill.

  2. How will an AMR system benefit me?

AMR eliminates the need for Laclede Gas to arrange access with customers to obtain meter readings, essentially doing away with estimated bills.

  3. Who is eligible to receive the AMR service?

Residential and commercial natural gas customers in the Laclede Gas and Missouri Natural (MONAT) service areas are scheduled for AMR installation.

  4. How will the AMR device be installed on my gas meter?

Cellnet representatives will install read devices on all Laclede Gas and Missouri Natural (MONAT) customer meters. AMR installers will carry Laclede Gas contractor identification cards.

  5. Will my gas service be interrupted?

Your gas service will not be interrupted, unless your gas meter is scheduled to be replaced.

  6. How do I set up an appointment to have AMR installed in my home?

You don’t need to do anything until notified by letter from Laclede Gas a 30 to 45 days prior to the scheduled installation. If you have an outside meter that is not blocked or obstructed, it will not be necessary for you to be home at the time of the installation. If you have an inside meter, we will initially attempt to perform the installation without scheduling an appointment with you. Whether you have an inside or outside meter, if it is not accessible when an installer arrives, a door hanger will be left indicating phone number for you to call to schedule an appointment.

  7. My meter is hidden or difficult to access. What should I do?

Cellnet representatives will require direct access to your gas meter. It is the customer’s responsibility to remove any obstructions or barriers that will prevent installation of the devices.

  8. How long will it take to install AMR in my home?

A typical single AMR system installation takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

  9. How much will it cost me?

No. AMR device installation is performed at no additional charge to customers.

  10. Who will install AMR and how will I be able to identify them?

Laclede Gas is partnering with Cellnet, which will provide representatives to install the AMR system on the meters of its residential and commercial natural gas customers. These employees can be identified by their uniforms and they will be carrying a Laclede Gas consultant badge.

  11. Who is Cellnet?

Cellnet Technology, Inc., based in Atlanta, Ga., is the leading provider of real-time automated meter reading (AMR) and automation solutions to the utility industry. The company installed a similar AMR system for AmerenUE customers in St. Louis several years ago.

  12. Will AMR service interfere with my radio, telephone, computer or other equipment?

No, the transmitting device operates in compliance with FCC regulations to avoid interference with other electronic devices. The AMR system operates independently at a low-power frequency reserved for this purpose and will not interfere with other equipment.

  13. Is my account information secure?

Yes. It’s a scrambled, secure process in which only meter readings or module numbers are transmitted. AMR does not transmit personal customer information.

  14. When will I receive a bill after the AMR device is installed?

AMR customers will see no difference in bill timing gas usage.

  15. How will this affect Laclede’s Budget Billing plan?

It will have no affect whatsoever.

  16. Will a technician stop by periodically to check on the AMR system?

Representatives will be available if there is a problem with the AMR system. The battery only has to be replaced every 8-10 years. If your meter is inside your building, we may need to make an appointment to provide service.

  17. Will I still see Laclede service trucks in my area?

Yes. Laclede Gas service personnel will continue to provide timely and efficient service for all gas-related customer service needs.
