Heating Assistance

Government funds may be available for eligible households under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), administered during the heating season by the Missouri Division of Family Services.  If you are a member of a low-income household, you may be eligible even if you are not behind in paying your heating bill. Funding for this important program has been $5.1 billion in the past. However, final 2011 appropriations demonstrate a 20 percent reduction in funding to $4.5 billion, with the potential for more cuts in 2012. Click here to learn steps you can take to demonstrate to Congress that they need to restore funding to the $5.1 billion level. Another website dedicated to LIHEAP advocacy is available by clicking here.

Additional assistance with heating bills may also be available from a number of programs, including Dollar-Help.  Contact the Missouri Division of Family Services or call us for more information about how to contact appropriate agencies.
