The Cold Weather Rule is a minimum payment plan that is offered between November 1 and March 31. The Cold Weather Rule plan allows an eligible active customer to maintain gas service by making the initial Cold Weather Rule payment amount, which is determined by taking your projected annual usage for a 12-month period, adding any past-due gas balances, and multiplying that amount by 12%. To remain on a Cold Weather Rule plan, customers then must continue to pay a levelized budget payment each month for one year. To determine this amount, Laclede calculates each customer’s total annual gas bill for the coming year, divides that into 12 equal monthly amounts, and adds one-twelfth of the customer’s total outstanding past-due balance.
To be eligible for this payment plan, the customer must be a residential heating customer and cannot participate at the same time in regular Budget Billing or credit arrangements.
