ST. LOUIS (October 31, 2013) – The winter heating season starts this Friday. At this time of the year, Laclede customers may be eligible for heating assistance funds or cold weather rule payment plans.
The Cold Weather Rule formally takes effect November 1 in Missouri. This program provides lenient budget payment plans for customers who have fallen behind on their accounts. The plan enables an eligible active customer to keep gas service by making an initial payment and then begin a balanced monthly payment plan. Laclede Gas also offers assistance throughout the year for elderly, disabled and low-income customers. For more information or to see if you qualify for any of these programs, call Laclede Gas at 314-621-6960 or visit www.LacledeGas.com/customer/assistance/.
Beginning November 1, Laclede Gas customers will be eligible to apply for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding. This federal program helps families pay heating bills with grants during the coldest months in Missouri. For more information on the program guidelines or to see if you qualify, call United Way 2-1-1 for a referral to your local community action agency.
“We encourage our customers to apply for funds early this year as federal funding of LIHEAP has been decreasing in recent years while the need only increases,” said Steve Lindsey, president of Laclede Gas Company. “These programs help our most vulnerable neighbors – those who are elderly, disabled and families with young children.”
Laclede Gas will partner with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis to help process LIHEAP applications at Harris Stowe State University November 4-7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for residents of St. Louis City and Wellston. Residents applying for funds will need to provide copies of their Social Security cards, proof of income and recent gas or electric bills.
Laclede Gas’ DollarHelp program provides grants year-round as long as funds are available. This program has provided much needed relief to local families for more than 30 years. St. Louisans lend a hand by checking the red box on their gas bill to donate one dollar a month to a neighbor in need. Last year, nearly 3,000 families kept the heat on thanks to DollarHelp funds. To donate to DollarHelp, Laclede Gas customers can check the red box on the bottom of their gas bill to donate $1 each month or visit www.dollarhelp.org
