Laclede Gas is warning customers of a recent scam claiming the Obama Administration will pay utility bills through a new federal program. Customers are asked for personal information that may lead to identity theft. No federal program exists.
The Better Business Bureau reports customers are being contacted by phone, fliers, social media and text. The scammers request a social security number and bank routing number. Customers are then provided with a fraudulent bank routing number to pay their bill.
Tips for our customers:
- If you have any questions about your Laclede Gas bill, please contact our customer service line directly at 314-621-6960.
- If you receive a call claiming to be Laclede Gas and you feel pressured or unsure if the person is a Laclede Gas employee, hang up and call our customer service line directly.
