Representatives of Laclede Gas Company will be at Beaumont High School, located at 3836 Natural Bridge Avenue in St. Louis, MO 63107, at 6 p.m. on January 19 to provide an overview of available low-income energy assistance programs, including features of two temporary programs recently approved by the Missouri Public Service Commission to assist qualified customers with payments and emergency repairs necessary to maintain or restore gas service. Laclede, along with representatives from Human Development Corporation, will also assist customers in completing the qualifying applications and answer customers’ specific account concerns.
Michael R. Spotanski, Senior Vice President of Operations & Marketing at Laclede Gas, says the appearance is part of a Beaumont Parent Teacher Organization program, and is in partnership with the Reach Out St. Louis! dropout prevention program at Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club. Studies have shown that student attendance can be positively impacted by a stable home environment, and taking the steps necessary to maintain utility services is an important element of that stability. Laclede Gas has strengthened its community outreach programs on low-income energy assistance, which will be extended to local churches and community organizations during 2011.
Laclede Gas personnel will also provide information on how to use gas as efficiently as possible, as well as details on how and where to get energy audits.
Laclede encourages customers to “Check a Red Box” to contribute to Dollar-Help, a heating-assistance fund designed to help those less fortunate pay their utility bills. Laclede also works closely with the Missouri congressional delegation in seeking continued federal funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP is a federally funded block grant that provides money to help low-income households make home heating more affordable and avoid shutoff of utility services during the winter.
A subsidiary of The Laclede Group (NYSE: LG), Laclede Gas Company has provided safe and reliable service to the residents of the St. Louis metropolitan area for more than 150 years. It is the largest gas distribution company in Missouri, serving nearly 630,000 natural gas customers in St. Louis and surrounding counties in Eastern Missouri.
