Laclede Gas Warns Customers of Possible Identity Theft Risk

Laclede Gas Company has received a handful of calls from customers stating they have been contacted by someone claiming to be a Laclede representative. The caller presents a dollar amount required for payment to avoid termination of natural gas service and then requests a credit card number and a social security number to prevent service shut-off.

It is important for Laclede Gas customers to know the following:

  • Authorized representatives from Laclede Gas do not call customers requesting personal information, such as bank account, credit card or social security numbers.
  • Calls regarding delinquent residential accounts are never initiated by a live operator from Laclede Gas.

The company utilizes an automated service to contact customers with delinquent accounts. When answered, the customer is presented with several payment options, including one for credit card payments. If they choose to pay by credit card, they are then transferred to a secure, automated service provided by a third-party vendor (ChoicePay).

Laclede Gas Company has provided safe and reliable service to the residents of the St. Louis metropolitan area for more than 150 years. It is the largest gas distribution company in Missouri, serving customers in St. Louis and surrounding counties in Eastern Missouri.
