ST. LOUIS, MO, November 21, 2007 – Laclede Gas Company was recently recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of nine new Natural Gas STAR partners. STAR encourages companies across the natural gas and oil industries to adopt cost-effective technologies and practices that improve operational efficiency to reduce emissions of methane, a gas over 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere.
STAR is a voluntary partnership between EPA and the oil and natural gas industry. It is currently endorsed by 12 oil and gas industry organizations, including the American Gas Association (AGA). Laclede has been a member since December 2006. Working collaboratively with the EPA through STAR, the domestic oil and gas industry now emits approximately 12 percent less methane than it did in 1990 – a substantial environmental accomplishment.
“Laclede is honored to be recognized as a partner in this very important program,” said Douglas H. Yaeger, president, chairman and CEO of Laclede Gas Company. “Any effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is a benefit to us all. In today’s day and age, companies have an obligation to do what they can to better the environment. In addition to being a STAR partner, Laclede encourages conservation efforts among customers, and we are an active partner in the Green Building Initiative, which encourages efficiencies in the use of resources, energy and materials in construction.”
STAR partner recognition was made during the 14th Annual Natural Gas Star Implementation in Houston, a conference that brings together Natural Gas Star partners and industry experts to discuss the latest technologies and practices to reduce greenhouse gases.
Laclede Gas, a subsidiary of The Laclede Group (NYSE: LG), is the largest gas distribution company in Missouri, serving more than 630,000 natural gas customers in St. Louis and surrounding counties in Eastern Missouri.
